However, more often than not, this game is gonna kick your butt instead. Getting to beat up a guy with a beach ball then drink a beer to celebrate the KO is awesome. While the combos are not as long winded and complicated as some other beat ’em ups I have played, it still feels great to kick butt.
The gameplay starts simple but as your attacks grow, so do your combos. You also buy buy random stuff like food or cheap CDs to get stronger. As you progress you level up and learn new moves. I hate to say it, but this might be a biased review.

If there’s one thing I love, it’s beat ’em up games.Ĭombing my favorite series of all time with one of my favorite video game genres is like a match made in heaven for me. Gameplay in Scott Pilgrim is close to one old beat ’em up series like River City Ransom. But really, there is no dialogue, it is a classic beat ’em up through and through. It follows the story beats well (it had the original creator, Bryan Lee O’Malley, working on it) and also has some fun endings for each character.
This is the best video game adaptation I’ve played. While the game great simplifies the story, it still serves as a great and simple premise for a creative side-scroller.
